Salon and Barbershop Conversations:
In countless salon conversations, I’ve heard Black women say, “I’m natural now,” or “I stopped using relaxers because they cause cancer.” And while I completely respect the journey to embracing natural hair—and the empowerment that comes with it—I believe it’s time we expand the conversation beyond just what we’re putting on our heads.
We’ve become cautious about topical products like relaxers, yet we’re still consuming foods that are far more dangerous to our health. The truth is, many of the additives and preservatives found in our everyday foods are banned in other countries, but they’re still lining the shelves in American grocery stores. Fast food, processed snacks, sugary drinks, and hormone-pumped meats are doing long-term damage that often goes unspoken in our beauty and wellness discussions.
Cancer Concern
If we are genuinely passionate about tackling cancer risks, inflammation, hormone disruption, and chronic illnesses, we must begin with the very essence of what we nourish our bodies with—because health is not solely defined by what we apply on the outside; it ignites from within!
Let’s keep talking about clean beauty. Let’s keep embracing our natural hair. But let’s also normalize conversations around gut health, whole foods, hydration, and reading food labels just as much as we talk about hair porosity and protective styles.
Your glow, your growth, and your greatness come from the inside out.
