Trump lied. He promised not to cut Medicaid or Medicare. He promised tax breaks for working families. He promised to protect the elderly.

Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” Isn’t So Beautiful for America’s Most Vulnerable

Proverbs 14:31 tells us “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker.” Voting to remove Medicaid and SNAP access is not just a policy decision. Moreover, it is contempt for God’s command to help the poor and vulnerable.

🏛️ What just happened?

Senate passage: On July 1, 2025, the U.S. Senate narrowly passed the bill 51–50, with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. Three Republicans—Susan Collins, Rand Paul, and Thom Tillis—voted against it. They were joined by all Democrats
Next step: With Senate approval, it’s headed to the House of Representatives for a final vote. This vote is expected as early as July 2–3, possibly still in time for Trump’s July 4 signing goal.

💔 Who is really paying the price?

Medicaid cuts: The bill includes deep cuts and stricter work requirements for Medicaid. This move could potentially strip 11–12 million Americans of their health coverage. These individuals include low-income working families, elderly individuals needing long-term care, and disabled citizens. They rely on Medicaid for life-saving treatments.

Food assistance cuts: SNAP (food stamps) is also facing new work mandates that will push many off the program. Imagine being a senior citizen with limited mobility, or a single parent juggling two part-time jobs just to survive. Now, they will be forced to meet new requirements or risk losing the help that feeds their children.

Tax cuts for the wealthy: While the bill removes life-sustaining support from those who need it most, it permanently extends Trump-era tax cuts. These cuts overwhelmingly benefit America’s highest earners. Additionally, it raises the SALT deduction cap to $40,000 for five years. This provision only benefits wealthier homeowners, not renters or those barely able to cover monthly bills.

Stripping green energy incentives: It rolls back key incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act. This measure hits renewable energy sectors hard and kills many green jobs in communities. These communities are striving for economic recovery.

🚨Why is this dangerous?

America is already facing historic income inequality, housing insecurity, and a health crisis among its elderly and disabled populations. This bill widens the gap, threatening the safety nets that millions depend on. Additionally, it balloons the federal deficit by over $2.5 trillion in the next decade.

And yet, it is being packaged as if it’s a “beautiful” win for everyone. It’s not.

⚠️ Trump lied

He promised not to cut Medicaid or Medicare, tax breaks for working families and he promised to protect the elderly. But instead, this bill:

Prioritizes border walls and deportation funds over feeding hungry children
Rewards billionaires and massive corporations
Leaves seniors and disabled Americans vulnerable to homelessness and untreated illness

🔍 What’s in the bill?

Tax cuts & debt ceiling

Permanently extends key provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and introduces additional breaks—such as eliminating taxes on tips/overtime and raising the SALT deduction cap to $40,000 (for up to five years). Additionally, it raises the federal debt ceiling by $4–5 trillion.

Spending cuts

Deep cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, including stricter work requirements—CBO projects ~11–12 million could lose health coverage

Border/military & ICE funding

Boosts in border security and military spending add roughly $150 billion to defense budgets. Additionally, it allocates $70–91 billion for border enforcement, including funding for ICE expansion and detention.

Reportedly allocates funds to hire 10,000 new ICE agents, with a target of 3,000 deportations per day

Energy & tech rollbacks

Rolls back green-energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act. On another note, it includes a restored tax credit for nuclear power through 2032.

Contains provisions to ban state-level regulation of AI systems for ten years

Deficit impact

CBO estimates add $2.4–2.8 trillion to the national debt over a decade. Other groups, like CRFB, project as much as $3.3–4 trillion, depending on interest.

🔍 We must pay attention

The House is set to vote this week. If it passes and Trump signs it into law, it will reshape American life for the most vulnerable. This includes those who cannot afford a lobbyist, a private health plan, or a million-dollar tax accountant.

🗣️ America deserves truth, not sugar-coated lies.

The One Big Beautiful Bill isn’t beautiful at all – it’s a betrayal to the very people it claims to uplift.

How can lawmakers claim Christianity yet pass a bill that targets the very people Jesus commanded us to protect?

The Bible says in Deuteronomy 15:11, “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy.” Yet instead of caring for the poor, this bill snatches food and healthcare from their tables.

Proverbs 14:31 tells us “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker.” Voting to remove Medicaid and SNAP access is not just a policy decision – it is contempt for God’s command to help the poor and vulnerable.

Republicans often campaign on their Christian faith, but Matthew 25:35-40 is clear: “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat… whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” If they truly believe in Christ’s teachings, why do their votes contradict His words?

America somehow finds the funds to build detention centers and expand ICE facilities, but when it comes to building homeless shelters, affordable housing, and accessible healthcare, suddenly “there’s no money.”

If they can build concentration camps, they can build homes for the homeless.

Proverbs 31:8-9 commands us to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Now is that time. This bill is not Christian; it is cruel.
