Who You Cruising With?

There is a lot of chatter about cruising now regarding rules and vibes. So let’s clear up who you should be cruising with… by generation.

Boomers

Ahh yes, the Boomer generation. These individuals are retiring every 90 seconds and still made it out on top of all other generations. This is due to no credit score reporting and no interest in their prime. This generation is also notorious for cruising when they are done working or playing with the grandkids. For Boomers, luxury cruising is a must, not only that long voyages. These travelers are enjoying 7 nights or more on river cruises (like Viking and Holland America) or an Alaskan cruise in the peak of July. Boomers are slow and chill, so they are looking for wellness programs, enrichment classes, and excursions that involve sightseeing and cultural experiences.

Generation X

Sorry to say, this generation is always looking to be seen and heard. They are searching to cruise with an itinerary. Well-planned out days full of adventure are what keeps this generation moving from port to port. Cruises offer great locations for stops, which adds land excursions to their list (such as Celebrity or Royal Caribbean). Don’t sleep on Generation X. This is the era of matching couple outfits, so their cruising will be stylish with a chic atmosphere. X may have littles, so they will dabble in other cruise lines. These will have great things for the kids, but with an itinerary.

Millennials

This generation is about to show all others how it is done. Social media content will come first when it deals with a cruise that is best for them. Spending over $3 trillion annually on travel, the Millennial generation is about the vibe. They seek themed and experience-focused voyages (check out Virgin for this lit crew). This generation gets down, but don’t be misled. They are conscious about where they spend their dollars regarding social justice and eco-friendly cruise lines. The food better be worth it because those plate pictures will be on Instagram as soon as it hits the table.

Generation Z

The Zs are going to spend, but rather spend with pennies. This is a very frugal generation who will still create a way to go! Make sure wifi is available for them to check their socials. The cruise needs to be a max of 4 days, as their attention is usually tapped by that day (Carnival and MSC). With their busy schedules, they are the bleisure travelers who create a new lane of making business and travel work simultaneously. This high-tech generation are night owls, so they will be sleeping in during breakfast dining hours.

Each generation has unique preferences, so cruise lines often tailor their offerings to accommodate these varied interests. To learn more about what fits you or your group, contact me to create the sailing experience!
