What skincare should I use?

When I first met Kelly, she was rushing. As a boy mom of three athletic sons, there were always sporting events or practices to attend. She felt there was never enough time to cleanse her facial skin.  So, she only used skincare products when she wore makeup at church. This was a level-up since she only splashed water on her face in her twenties because she had sensitive skin.

Now her biggest beauty struggle was understanding her needs as she aged. Her skin is changing…. uneven skin tone, rough and dead skin, and fine lines.  Her needs are different now than ten years ago.

I shared with her that her face is like a car windshield. Have you ever noticed how dirty it can get over time? Everything falling on her windshield is falling on her face, so she wants to keep it clean and protected. She needs a glass cleaner to clean her windshield so she needs a cleanser to remove impurities, oil, sweat, and makeup on her face.

It is important to use skincare products based on your skin type and have a daily skin routine for a healthy complexion.

There are three skin types – dry, normal, and combination-to-oily.

Dry skin is tight, cracked, and sometimes flaky and craves hydration and moisture.

Normal skin is in the middle, neither dry nor oily, and often depends on the season.

Combination-to-oily skin has a shine in the T-zone (forehead and nose). Clogs pores lead to breakouts.

There are five essential steps in a skincare regimen.

1. Cleanse to remove impurities, oil, sweat, and makeup.

2. Exfoliate to remove the dead and dull skin.

3. Tone to clarify your pores

4. Moisturize to make your face soft and supple.

5. Protect skin with sunscreen and/or foundation. This is similar to car window tint.

This regimen can be natural or anti-aging products. Kelly wanted an anti-aging regimen gentle on her sensitive skin. She loved multi-tasker products. Her cleanser enabled her to cleanse, tone, exfoliate, and brighten. Her moisturizer protects her skin with an SPF of 30 and moisturizes her dry skin. A skin care regimen perfect for her on-the-go lifestyle and meets the bare minimum requirements.

Finding a skincare regimen can be tricky.

So here are some skin regimen must-dos

1. Find a skincare regimen that is conducive to your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, test products behind your ear to hide any noticeable reaction while searching for your regimen.

2. A skincare regimen has at least a cleanser and moisturizer. Get multitasker products if possible.

3. Use twice a day (morning and night) to have a healthy complexion.

Always remember that makeup doesn’t cover up bad skin.
