Black-Owned Atlanta Date Nights: Rooftops, Restaurants & Late-Night Lounges Worth Trying

Atlanta knows how to do date night.

From rooftop cocktails overlooking the city to intimate dinners, Caribbean flavors, live music and late-night lounges, there are plenty of places around the city where couples can turn dinner into an entire evening. And if supporting Black-owned businesses is important to you, Atlanta offers an impressive selection of restaurants and nightlife destinations worth discovering. Whether you’ve been together for 20 years, you’re planning a first date, or you simply need an excuse to get dressed and get out of the house, here are some Black-owned Atlanta spots to put on your date-night list.

Rooftop Date Nights

Cafe Circa — Edgewood Avenue

Cafe Circa gives couples two very different experiences without having to change locations. Downstairs offers a more relaxed restaurant-and-bar atmosphere, while the rooftop brings DJs, music, cocktails and a livelier nightlife experience. Cafe Circa currently lists Thursday through Saturday hours extending until 3 a.m., making it one of the stronger choices for couples who don’t want their night to end after dinner.

Date-night vibe: Dinner downstairs, rooftop party upstairs
Best for: Couples who want dinner, drinks and nightlife
Location: 464 Edgewood Ave. SE, Atlanta

Casual & Affordable Date Nights

Cafe Kulture — Downtown Atlanta

Not every good date requires valet parking, a dress code and a $200 dinner bill. Sometimes you want somewhere comfortable where you can eat, talk, laugh and enjoy each other’s company. Cafe Kulture — Downtown Atlanta

Plant-based couples—and even people who aren’t vegan—have an interesting late-night option in Downtown Atlanta. Cafe Kulture specializes in plant-based comfort food and all-day breakfast. Even better for night owls, the restaurant currently serves dinner until midnight during the week and until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. With menu pricing generally on the more affordable side, this is one of the options on our list for couples who want to keep date night casual without sacrificing the opportunity to stay out late.

Date-night vibe: Casual, laid-back and different
Best for: Vegan and vegan-curious couples, casual dates and late-night food
Location: 43 Jesse Hill Jr. Drive NE, Atlanta

Dinner With a Grown & Sexy Vibe

Fellaship — Downtown Atlanta

If your idea of date night involves dressing up a little, enjoying a cocktail and settling into a sophisticated atmosphere, Fellaship deserves consideration. Owned by Cam Newton and Cecil Newton Jr., the Downtown Atlanta restaurant and lounge combines dining, cocktails, socializing and a cigar-lounge experience. This isn’t necessarily the place I’d choose when the goal is the cheapest dinner possible. Instead, put Fellaship on the list when you want the evening itself to feel like an occasion.

Date-night vibe: Sophisticated lounge
Best for: Celebrations, dressed-up date nights and cigar enthusiasts
Location: 110 Centennial Olympic Park Drive, Atlanta

Downtown Dinner That Turns Into Late Night

Level III Cuisine and Bar — Downtown Atlanta

For couples who want to stay in the heart of Downtown, Level III combines dinner and cocktails with a nightlife atmosphere. The space has a modern lounge feel, with music and hookah adding to the late-night experience. Current listings show hours extending to 2:30 a.m. Friday and as late as 4 a.m. Saturday. This is less about having a quiet candlelit dinner and more about having somewhere you can eat and then stay for the atmosphere.

Date-night vibe: Stylish, energetic and late-night
Best for: Couples who want dinner without having to find a second destination afterward
Location: 14 Jesse Hill Jr. Drive NE, Atlanta

When You Want Music With Your Date

TEN ATL — East Atlanta Village

Some couples would rather hear good music than sit across from each other in a silent restaurant. TEN ATL is an intimate late-night lounge in East Atlanta Village known for DJs, live bands and jazz programming. It’s a good addition to a date itinerary when you want cocktails and music to be the focus of the evening. Current weekend hours extend until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Date-night vibe: Music-forward and intimate
Best for: Live-music lovers and late-night dates
Location: 495 Flat Shoals Ave. SE, Atlanta

For Something Outside the Usual Atlanta Date-Night Circuit

Boum Boum — Buford Highway

Boum Boum brings West African and Nigerian influences into a modern restaurant-and-lounge setting. The menu includes everything from suya and seafood to pasta and cocktails, while music and a lounge atmosphere make it possible to stay beyond dinner. Current hours extend until 2 a.m. most nights. This could be an especially fun choice when you’re tired of rotating through the same Southern, steak and seafood restaurants.

Date-night vibe: Energetic, cultural and social
Best for: Adventurous eaters and late-night couples
Location: 3979 Buford Highway NE, Atlanta

Date Night Doesn’t Have to Mean Fine Dining

One thing Atlanta’s dining scene makes clear is that romance doesn’t have a price requirement. A great date might be rooftop cocktails at sunset. It might be vegan comfort food downtown at midnight. It could be an Afro-Caribbean dinner followed by dancing, or sitting together listening to live music in East Atlanta. The important part is choosing an experience that fits the two of you. And supporting a Black-owned restaurant adds another layer to the evening. Your date-night dollars help support entrepreneurs, employees and businesses that contribute to the culture that has made Atlanta what it is.

Make a Night of It

Instead of thinking only about where you’re eating, build an entire evening around your destination. For Cafe Circa, start downstairs with dinner and conversation before heading upstairs when you’re ready for music. And if you’re Downtown, consider pairing dinner with a walk through Centennial Olympic Park, a concert, sporting event or another Downtown attraction. Atlanta gives you plenty of opportunities to make the night your own.

Before You Go

Restaurant hours, menus, entertainment schedules, dress codes and cover charges can change particularly at restaurants that transition into lounges later in the evening. Check directly with the venue before heading out, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Reservations are also worth considering for popular dinner hours.

Head2Toe’s Date-Night Take

Atlanta’s Black-owned restaurant scene isn’t one-dimensional, and neither should your date nights be. Go casual one weekend. Find a rooftop the next. Try food you’ve never eaten before. Put on something nice and have a grown-and-sexy night out. Or stay out until 2 a.m. listening to music like you don’t have anything to do the next morning. The goal isn’t simply to find somewhere to eat. It’s to experience Atlanta, support local Black-owned businesses and make some memories while you’re doing it.
