[Atlanta, GA] March 6, 2024- “Georgia’s Youngest Certified Farmer”, eight year old Kendall Rae Johnson will be hosting the Inaugural Generation Green Gala on March 22, 2024. The gala will be held at the Atlanta Community Food Bank through her nonprofit foundation, Kendall Rae’s Green Heart. Guests can expect a night full of education and enjoyment accompanied by a live DJ, performances, a silent auction, and dinner. It will be a night filled with Atlanta’s agriculture “who’s who” community.

High-profile honorees will be in attendance, such as Georgia Representatives Rhonda Taylor and Angela Moore, Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs, and Commissioner Khadijah Abdrrahman. Special guest speakers will include 11 Alive’s Kaitlyn Ross, Dr. Jewel Bronaugh and TikTok favorite Andre the Farmer. There will also be a special performance from Moving in the Spirit. On top of supporting the food bank, proceeds from this event will also contribute to Kendall’s nonprofit foundation, which funds educational agricultural programs for youth. When asked about the upcoming gala, Johnson says, “I’m excited to help people eat healthy!” Her mother, Ursula Johnson, elaborated saying, “This gala is our way to bring the community together in order to further educate others on the importance of healthy eating, sustainability and preserving the earth. Our honorees and attendees are key leaders that also align with this important cause.”

Johnson’s work in farming and sustainability has received lots of top-tier visibility. She has been featured on A-list media outlets including ABC News, Good Morning America, Sesame Street, MSNBC, Nickelodeon and The Ellen Show. She has also been retweeted by Michelle Obama, highlighted by Dr. Bernice King, and recognized by Sen. Raphael Warnock and Vice President Kamala Harris. She’s also hosted her own Earth Day parade with +400 attendees, participated in roundtable discussions surrounding sustainability and agriculture, and has even written her own book, I’m Growing Places. Alongside her parents, she runs an urban farm called aGROWKulture in her hometown of South Fulton, GA while using her passion to fund and promote agriculture and sustainability education.

Kendall Rae Johnson, Georgia’s youngest certified farmer at age of 6, born and raised in  South Fulton, GA right outside of Atlanta. Kendall Rae, as she is known by most, has been playing in the soil since she was 3 years old. She was inspired by the teachings of her great grandmother Laura “Kate” Williams. Although Kendall Rae doesn’t quite remember her great-grand, she remembers hearing her saying, “Don’t throw my collard green stems away, put them back in the dirt.”  That’s when it all started… on a small, but mighty little patio pouch with Grandma. This tranquil and comforting place was where they planted seeds of cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and broken collard green stems. Kendall was fascinated to see a once tiny seed or stem grow into a beautiful garden with colorful vegetables ready to be eaten by the family.

Today, this eight year old is the youngest certified farmer in the State of Georgia with a business formation in the state and federal government, and has even obtained her farm and tract ID. Kendall Rae’s love of farming has empowered her to become an advocate and spokesperson for little people across the country and beyond.
