Have you ever wondered about your foundation match? The struggle is real as the seasons change, so does your foundation. Spring weather means spending more time outdoors, allowing you to get more sun than in winter. So, I was not surprised when my client Felecia wanted another foundation shade darker than the one, she used during the winter. 

Felecia is a busy professional who values her appearance and loves attending family-friendly events, concerts, and festivals on the weekends.  When she attends outdoor events, she rarely burns and her skin tone deepens throughout the summer. So she has a winter and spring/summer foundation shade but her friend’s skin tone stays mostly the same all year.

I was able to help Felecia find the perfect match for her suntanned complexion. I matched not only her skin tone but her undertone using a three-color strip test. Using three different foundation shades, helped us find the shade that blends into her skin. 

The color of the foundation is not the only thing that matters when it comes to selecting a foundation. Felecia’s skin type is normal to dry during the winter, so she prefers a luminous finish to add more moisture. It’s more humid during the spring and summer, so she prefers a matte finish to control the shine. 

We wanted to ensure her foundation didn’t melt off her face. So, she used a foundation primer BEFORE she applied her foundation. She applied a finishing spray AFTER she applied her foundation, mascara, and lip color to extend her makeup wear so she could be gorgeous all day, even in the humidity.

Felecia loves a variety of different foundation types. She uses her CC cream when she’s running errands or on the beach because it is the perfect dash-out-the-door foundation. However, she loves a liquid foundation with buildable coverage if she is going to a special event, church, or work. She never leaves home without her pressed powder compact to touch up her foundation while she is out and about to maintain her look. She loves the flexibility of coverage based on her activity or event.

3. Choose a foundation type (Liquid, powder, cream) based on your activity, event, and style.

4. Use primer and finishing spray to extend the wear in humidity. Always have pressed powder to touch up on the go.

5. Remove makeup, cleanse, and moisturize your skin before bed so your skin can breathe and rejuvenate while you sleep.
