NEW YORK, NY) April 13, 2022 — Veteran actor, producer, director, author, and human rights activist Malik Yoba, has just signed a new publicity deal with an Atlanta-based PR firm, The David Brand. Yoba who is known for acting in classic roles including ‘Cool Runnings’, ‘New York Undercover’, ‘Why Did I Get Married’, ‘Empire’ and ‘Girlfriends’. Yoba, a serial entrepreneur, is excited to embrace a new chapter highlighting his work in mental health advocacy, social equity initiatives in cannabis, real estate development, and of course, film and television. When asked about the new relationship, Yoba says, “After working with David several years ago on the film Bad Dad Rehab, we’ve maintained an informal working relationship and we felt it was time to make it official, I’m looking forward to working more closely with The David Brand as we pursue a lot of great opportunities on the horizon together.”
After a recent feature in USA Today highlighting his recovery from heart surgery, Yoba who has begun exploring the connection between the physical heart and the emotional heart and healing trauma within the black community in a new book he’s writing says “Black men, and those of us in Hollywood, the public eye or in general, often times aren’t even aware of the amount of stress and trauma we continue to carry that we haven’t dealt with that adds to the overall stress on the heart or that lives out loud when we least expect as we all witnessed at the 2022 Oscars”, Yoba says. “It is my goal to help our community, and particularly black men heal and start more conversations and take the action steps needed to work on our mental and emotional well-being and healing the heart from the inside out.”
Coupled with his health and wellness work, Yoba also has other film projects up his sleeve that the world will see soon: a docuseries he created for schools and community screenings entitled ‘The Real Estate Mixtape’. In the docuseries, Yoba takes a young group of aspiring real estate professionals of color on a journey with him as he pursues his first development deal in NY while exposing them to the movers and shakers that build the city. This effort has resulted in a redevelopment project of a public school, mixed used housing and sports complex a few blocks from where he was born in the South Bronx and the young people becoming further imbedded in the industry. “My goal is to help our communities understand how they are built and by whom to help build and own the neighborhoods we live in and understand the importance of building family legacy”. Then later this year, Yoba will be returning to the big screen in a role on Netflix’s, ‘The Good Nurse’ starring Academy Award winner, Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne. Details of the film’s release are still forthcoming.
