Miraculous “Razor Chic” Hair Transformation Inspires Moving Sermon by Award-Winning Gospel Artist Erica Campbell

In case you were unaware, the award-winning gospel artist, Erica Campbell, delivered a sermon recently in which she references Instagram video posts exhibiting a remarkable hair transformation created by the Atlanta-based, celebrity hairstylist, Razor Chic. Campbell happened upon the video posts that showed a young woman covering her face with her hands and was astounded by the video and caption accompanying it.

“The lady who was sitting in the chair had her face in her hands,” begins Campbell. “So I started reading the caption and wondered ‘Hm, I wonder who this is.’ The caption said that for the past 23 years, the lady never lets her husband see her hair, that she had spent the 20 years of marriage wearing wigs, and weaves, and braids because she was too ashamed of what her hair looked like. She just didn’t want her husband to see it.”

Believe it or not, the traction alopecia epidemic is real and has taken its toll on the black community as the popularity of wigs and weaves continues to increase. With the visual nature of Instagram and reality TV shows like Love & Hip Hop and The Real Housewives, many women have been lured into wearing hair extensions that have later led to devastating encounters with thin edges, bald spots and in some cases, permanent hair loss.

Jasmine “Razor Chic” Collins has been on the front lines, fighting this uphill battle with the hair industry for years. She often uses her Instagram account to enlighten fellow hairstylists on how to care for and style “real hair” to stop and prevent hair loss resulting from the tugging, pulling and ripping out of hair through hair extensions. After receiving international fame when the footage of one of her hair transformations went viral in 2016, rounds of women from across the world and of various ages and hair conditions have shown up to Razor Chic’s salon, opting for her signature haircuts and styles to disguises some of their most critical hair loss conditions.

Razor Chic’s viral Instagram hair transformations, which currently reaches more than 568,000 followers, found it’s way to gospel singer Erica Campbell. Inspired by Razor Chic, Erica’s recent sermon went on to state, “As many of you know with wearing hair, there is a bit of a coverup involved. When you cover up things, you complicate things and you don’t deal with what’s underneath. And when you keep covering up, it’s pretty on top and tangled underneath. It’s kind of hard to move forward the way you’re supposed to because you’re always aware that you’re covering up. You’re always aware that no matter how many compliments you receive. If only they knew what was up underneath.”

“So this lady let [Razor Chic] take her wig out. She trimmed her hair, she colored her hair and when she turned around to the mirror she just wept. She had never seen herself look like that before because she was so tangled up and covered up.”
