TC Carson Releases Musical Dedication to Al Jarreau and Bill Withers at 52nd NAACP Image Awards

(ATLANTA, GA) March 25, 2021 — During a weeklong celebration of black excellence in arts and  entertainment from the 52nd NAACP Image Awards where winners have included Pres. Barack ObamaMarsai Martin, Jamie Foxx, Trevor Noah, Steve Harvey and more, actor, jazz vocalist and 2x Image Award nominee TC Carson debuted a musical tribute to the late musical legends Al Jarreau and Bill Withers during this week’s Virtual Experience hosted by the award show.

In this awesome musical mashup Carson opens with the Jarreau classic “You Don’t See Me” with an a cappella scat truly signature to the stylings of both Jarreau and Carson. He then transitions, still with an up tempo beat, to the classic Withers song, “Ain’t No Sunshine” while undergirded by a jazzy African beat that reimagines the classic we’ve always loved in a way that only TC Carson can recreate.

“I didn’t get the opportunity to perform these songs for them before they passed as I had hoped…” Carson says when speaking of his inspiration behind this medley. “However I felt that the NAACP Image Awards was the perfect platforms to honor these legends that have meant so much to me and the black community.”

This performance was also the perfect supporting act for Carson as he, along with his longtime friend and former co-star on the 90s hit sitcom Living SingleErika Alexander, were among the few to be the first presenters announcing the show’s initial nominees.

“This show is for us…” Carson says when speaking of the NAACP Image Awards. “We don’t have to wait for other people to celebrate us…here, we celebrate us.”
